What is an Introduction?

“Introduce yourself” is a phrase we hear more often than we'd like. But the
question touches a different nerve in each of us. Its meaning and its discomfort are
deeply personal.
My thoughts rarely mirror anyone else’s. And that's the beauty of our minds. A
Hindi speaker from the North will have a different perspective than a Tamil
speaker from the South.
But like me, they're all wrestling with its meaning. The phrase narrows and
becomes individual-specific as far as thoughts are concerned. It only broadens
when we view it in terms of identity.
Now, the thoughts focus on...
“Who am I?”
&
“Where do I belong?”
On the surface, we all have our simple and worldly answers. We have our region,
our family, our community, our race, our country, and, of course, our work to show
for it.
Beyond all these answers, some individuals still aren't satisfied. They feel out of
place in the identities they were born into. A constant itch that keeps them
company in their quiet search for the corner where they truly fit. These are my kind
of people. People who don’t stop at the surface, who keep asking, ‘What really is
an introduction?’
A fleeting thought:
Maybe an introduction isn’t what we say, but what we spend a lifetime discovering.
